Ubuntu Christian Edition Ubuntu Christian Edition was a free, open source operating system geared towards Christians. It was based on the popular Ubuntu. Along with the standard Ubuntu applications, Ubuntu Christian Edition includes the best available Christian software. The latest release contains GnomeSword, a top of the line Bible study program for Linux based on the Sword Project. There are several modules installed with GnomeSword including Bibles, Commentaries, and Dictionaries. Ubuntu Christian Edition also includes fully integrated web content parental controls powered by Dansguardian. A graphical tool to adjust the parental control settings has also been developed specifically for Ubuntu Christian Edition. The goal of Ubuntu Christian Edition was not to bring Christianity to Linux but to bring Linux to Christians. Status: Discontinued |

Rate this project | The Devuan GNU+Linux team have announced the availability of a new point release of their distribution. The new point release, Devuan GNU+Linux 3.1.0, now supports three init options at install time: OpenRC, SysV init, and runit. The installer now also allows users to install an alternative bootloader (lilo) instead of GRUB. The release announcement states: «Devuan Beowulf 3.1.0 point release installer ISOs, desktop-live, and minimal-live ISOs are now available. Note that ARM and potencial images are not updated in this release. What’s new in this point release: The installer now offers a choice of three init systems. runit has been added, along with sysvinit and OpenRC. If you would like to select an alternate bootloader (lilo) or exclude non-free firmware, you must select one of the Expert install options.» Further information can be found in the project’s release notes. | Devuan GNU+Linux is a Linux distribution forked from Debian in 2015. The project’s primary goal is to provide a variant of Debian without the complexities and dependencies of systemd, an init system and services manager originally developed by Red Hat and later adopted by most other Linux distributions. Devuan’s initial beta release was made available in April 2016, together with an upgrade path from Debian 7.0 «Wheezy» and a possibility to switch to Devuan from Debian 8.0 «Jessie». The distribution adopted Xfce as its default desktop. |

Devuan is a fork of Debian with the SysV init software used in place of Debian’s systemd package. Services which rely on systemd to function have similarly been replaced with other software offering equivalent functionality. «Many of you might remember November 2014 when we announced that we were going to fork Debian.
